My beautiful son, Apollo, was a long and lean baby right from the start. It was always a struggle to find clothes that fit well – especially since we used cloth diapers, which meant we had to size up to accommodate his big diaper bum. We tried pricey onesie extenders but those got lost easily and his clothing still didn’t fit properly.

The few brands that did fit well were high maintenance, needing to be washed on a delicate setting and laid flat to dry. This isn’t very practical for exhausted parents living in the limited space of a townhouse. After a couple of accidental trips to the dryer, the clothing looked old and weathered- I yearned for natural clothing that was durable and easy to wash.Just a little over a year after the birth of my son, I gave birth to my second child- a beautiful stillborn daughter, Ares. A kind nurse wrapped my daughter in a donated handmade acrylic knitted blanket. Despite the kind gesture, I couldn’t help but notice that it was too large and clunky for bundling a baby. 

It turned out there were no hats, onesies, or swaddles of an appropriate size available. Bundling is, at its essence, an expression of care and love. The act of enveloping a helpless being, new to the world, to protect and keep them warm. I thought of parents who have premature babies in the neonatal intensive care unit or others who also lost their baby who never got to bundle. Since that day in the hospital, I began dreaming of an eco-friendly, sustainable brand that caters to babies and children of all sizes- including those who cloth diapers and those who are extra tiny, and all too often, forgotten! My inspiration for founding Ares + Co was born from my own struggle to find the right clothing for my babies.
